Hi Tawnya, Not knowing any details about your porch, here's a link to the Sportsman's guide. They have inexpensive, quality products! https://www.sportsmansguide.com/productlist?k=sun+shades

    Good luck!

Is it a covered porch? If so, hang curtains or a bmboo shade that can be rolled up when desired. If not, then perhaps a pergol you can build or a “ready made” one from your local home improvement or Big Lots. (I got a great 10‘ x 12’ floor demo at the end of the season for a song. I had to disassemble the unit myself, but it was helpful to know how to put it back up.)

Get some bamboo rollup shades at the big box store. They are not expensive. I have used these for years. They can hook right over nails driven into the uprights on the porch.

Shade cloth also works well to block sun from the side. You can stretch it between uprights or hang it like curtains. You can see through it, especially from the inside. Most often available in green it also comes in black, tan, blue and sometimes other colors. Trellis panels provide some shade and can be used on the tops of pergolas or the sides of porches.

Even curtains made from drop cloth can be hung easily. Our patio doesn't have enough overhang to shade it from all the direct sun it gets, so we have a patio umbrella set up.

The shade cloth is a great answer... I have seen it hung on a rod made from black water pipe and using shower curtain rings.... get a grommet kit for that or use it to make roman shades.

The nice thing about the shade cloth, is that it does not block a breeze from blowing thru, lasts for years (we have had some up for 10+ in AZ), you can use a regular home sewing machine for seaming or hemming, and as Mindshift says you can see thru it... WE use it many things, shade cover for our garden boxes, on the chicken yard, on the sunny side of the screen patio, and as an extra shade for the horse... We are in Phoenix, AZ... and I can tell you that IT WORKS !

I use a pop up canopy in the summer. It has to be attached to the deck so it doesn't blow away in a windy storm. I have a good one with strong legs that won't bend/buckle in wind. Also it is 6 sided so the water runs off.
