there is no easy way to get rid of weeds.smother them out with newspaper, cardboard and heavy landscape fabric, top with a few layers of mulch
Yes! Smother them. Use newspaper, cardboard or landscape fabric, then cover with mulch.
Boiling water, several layers of newspaper, then mulch on top
Easiest way is pulling. You could use weed killer, either homemade or purchased, but it will also kill the flowers that it touches. Having a weed barrier around your flower bed will keep the grass and ground ivy from sending their tendrils into your flower beds. Of course heavy mulching with shredded leaves will discourage weeds and improve your soil, but the weeds that find a way in still need to be pulled.
Each spring I weed my gardens when there are only a few and the dreaded Creeping Charlie. The creeping Charlie I remove to outside the garden, which makes it easy to get to if it spreads back into the garden, which it will. Once the garden is cleaned up, I put down Preen Weed Preventer. I stops the weed seeds from sprouting that get into the garden, but does not prevent seeds you plant from germinating. It really does work, I may spend a few minutes a week taking care of the creeping Charlie and tree seeds that sprout and that is it.
