When we moved this last time... I knew that some of the stuff would have to be in storage for quite a while, during the restoration and renovation of the house... So I packed everything in the clear plastic storage crates (clam shell top) most home improvement stores, Walmart, etc. sell them for about $8)
They stack neatly and you can see mostly see what is in them. As we emptied them to put the stuff in the house... they were filled with.. painting equipment, roller handles etc, Christmas Decorations. I use them in my sewing room to hold fabrics... husband uses them in the garage to hold... stuff. As you move stuff from cardboard boxes into the new plastic ones... re-assess what you have... and how soon you will need it again... and be tough..
Fill them up with stuff to donate to the Salvation Army. Advertise in a free paper for free boxes for people that are moving. See if any day care centers would like boxes for kids to play in or use for crafts. I spent countless hours as a kid making things like space ships out of boxes.
Do you need what's in those boxes? If not, have a Garage Sale. Anything you don't really need, give to the Veterans, Purple Heart, Women's Shelters or Good Will. That's what I do. I just gave Veterans 6 trash bags full of clothes, handbags, shoes and a hanging light. You put them out the night before your Pick Up time the next day.
I’m in the same predicament myself right now. My new home is a little larger than yours but I still can very much relate! It’s difficult! Good luck!
Fill boxes with items from one room and mark box the room in new house it should be in.
