The details on the skunk are: tiny space between large cement step and concrete front porch. Has dug a mound of dirt and husband saw him on front walkway adjacent to the front step. How to humanely get rid of it?

For a skunk I would call a pest exterminator that specializes in relocating critters also called a wildlife wrangler.
Scattter lots of moth balls around...they will leave, don't like the smell, I guess. But then, I don't like the smell, either...
Repealants may also be effective in skunk deterrence. Mild repellents, such as used kitty litter, can be placed near or inside the den to one side so the skunk has to pass them to get out; commercial or homemade capsaicin or castor oil repellents may also be tried.
WHEN SKUNK IS OUT AND AWAY, USUALLY AT NIGHT, CONSIDER USING CEMENT BLOCKS OR PATIO STONES TO CLOSE OFF ACCESS.
Fill the gap with something like concrete or if not Timber or what ever is to hand..........
