I want to plant a large shrub with red leaves in an old, huge oak stump- It is right at the front walk. Tree had to be taken down and is an eyesore now. The stump is about 2 feet high and 2 feet in around.

That's what I want to know----what kind to get. Which shrub with reddish leaves would be best. I can trim it down to size if it grows too big.

Why not have the stump ground out? I’m not sure a plant within a tree stump would fare very well. There are also ways to diy the stump, drilling holes in it, and chopping it out in pieces. Check the internet...I’ve seen a product that will rot the stump.

That’s a great idea! We had an old pecan tree next to our house. Think I’ll do that too

The burning bush is red. It's beautiful and would look gorgeous in your oak trunk. I think you can buy the dwarf variety.

We have an old tree stump in our flower garden. My husband drilled holes in the sides, filled it with dirt and we plant wavy petunias in it every year. Gorgeous.
