Making stair treads out of oak or pine?
I need to replace my stairway on my 1925 home. I have 11 treads and the cost for actual treads is quite high. Does anyone have any experience in making their own? What do you recommend for material?

If you make your own, go with oak - pine is cheap, but it is soft and will dent and ding easily. If that bothers you, use a harder grade wood.
