I refurbished my white chippy rusted mesh metal hand-me-down table set with Rustoleum in oil rubbed bronze— it came out better than new.
We HAD looked at replacing the table set with a similar contemporary set and it was not as well made or heavy weight. Sometimes the older things are better made than new.
Consider sanding the rust- prime and spray painting. I highly recommend Rustoleum products.
Rub down metal to remove any loose rusty pieces. Paint frame with
Rust-olium metal paint. either clean up and reuse glass top as was or Paint or stick stuff (face up) to the underside so it shows through n top.
If the rust hasn't compromised the strength of the frame I would sand it, prime and repaint using Rustoleum spray paint. I used a black and the result was what looked like new furniture. Give it a try!
The metal framed table might be wrought iron. Can you send a picture? For all rust, I like rust reformer type of products. They paint on turquoise but turn black as they dry. I used sponge brushes as I threw them away afterwards. Follow the directions. Some actually say brush off the loose rust, but leave enough rust for the product to work. My kinda' 'don't clean too hard' directions! Then a couple coats of all-weather paint specific for wrought iron, if that's what you have. Use a gentle cleanser for the rust on the glass top, as I've seen harsh cleansers scratch glass. It should just lift out of the frame so you can work on each separately.
