Organizing Shoes
The problem with shoes, we love them and if you have more than one season year round you have shoes for each season. Lori, we will never have enough, now how many are you talking about and how big is your closet and can you possibly steal space from another rooms closet, such as if you had an empty room or small child although those eventually will need to be used I'm sure. If not have you thought about buying a cabinet with shelves and doors so that you can put all your shoes in one place. The under the bed idea is great if you use a canvas not plastic unit, because if they are good quality shoes, leather to be exact, they need to breathe. Remember leather was skin once,if you stick it in plastic they will dry out and crack over time. You wouldn't do the to a leather jacket or purse, would you? If you can go on ikeas site and look at what cabinets they offer and whether or not you can add more shelves because you want to maximize storage room vertically, that's an option. Not saying you can't find somewhere else check out all home improvement stores because they also sell storage units. It may only be me but I air out my shoes so I don't want them under my bed and I want to keep them dust free. My husband doesn't get it but then he wears a uniform and doesn't like sandals nor flip flops nor gym shoes. So really what does that leave, the guy has maybe 4 pair of shoes. So Lori, I'm glad that you have so many that you need more space I just hope that helped a little.
Heavens. There are all sorts of over the door shoe bags. I prefer clear myself. I have two hanging behind my clothes. I removed the hook, reinforced the top with snazzy duct tape and hung each on three large cup-type hooks.
Ikea, and others, make a cabinet that holds 6 or 8 pairs of shoes that is attractive enough to leave at your entrance.
Google shoe storage.
I purchase clear shoe boxes and store my shoes in them. I have them stacked on a shelf up near the ceiling of my closet. Think vertical. There's a lot of space up high in our closets.
I agree-- never enough shoes! I'm trying to figure out the same problem and going vertical was what I did by reusing CD sheves. I had so many I ended up dividing winter / summer and right now winter shoes are under bed while summer are on the shelves. Come Fall, I'll switch them out. Hope this helps!
Using the hollow area between the wall studs is a floor-space-saving method of storing shoes. Here are a couple of examples:
