Not sure how large your room is or if you have bookcases or shelving, but you might consider a coffee table with storage within or an ottoman that has a lid to a storage area. You might be able to make end tables using suitcases where you could also store items or you might also consider using nightstands as end tables.
Janice had the same ideas that came to my mind too! Ottomans and coffee tables can be all made with removable "lids" for storage. End tables can be purchased or built to have room with crates or boxes to fit beneath them. High storage for books and things can be built around the entire crown of the room in the form a shelf with corbels.
Use your wall space. You can do so much - built-in bookshelves, floating shelves - we just custom built two simple shelves to fit eight of those fabric storage bins. I emptied out so much of my closet :)

They make sofas that hinge the seats so you can lift the seats up with storage underneath.

I'd go vertical for storage. Bookcases with doors, shelving etc.
