Depends on the size. I have seen them being used as a cellar when it is burried in the ground.
Take the door off. Lay it on it's back, fill with ice and drinks for a barbecue or outside party.
You could also lay it on it's back and make it a big planter. You can even put a small water feature in it.
Make sure you take the door off if you put it in the ground so 'NO ONE' climbs in!!!!
Many cities and towns have scrap metal recyclers that will pay you for your old appliances.
It might not be the most DIY solution, but at least you will know your old fridge will be melted down and used to create something new eventually! Plus they'll probably give you a few dollars for it!

Actually, they are very dangerous to little children and a couple die every year from playing and locking themselves inside. Until you decide what to do with it, make sure the door is shoved tightly against a wall.
