Hi Paula. LESS IS ALWAYS BETTER! From furniture to items on bookshelves to less wall decor....Keep it simple. You may have to downsize some things tho. Maybe take out bigger sized and bring in smaller.
I like the busyness of your house with your plants your throws and your pillows it makes it look inviting and comfortable. For some of us less is not always better
As most people do - you have too much furniture and stuff in this small room. Decide what to keep and what can go (purge), and then decide on a style - you have too many different styles going on and none of the colors blend together. Paint the walls, simple artwork, less blankets (try to keep them in your color pallet) and arrange the furniture that you keep. Less stuff means less clutter and less dust too.
What I would do; get a loveseat cover that matches the wall paint, get a large basket for the pillows & throws & put beside the chair, relocate the brown photo picture frame, take flowers off the hutch & leave empty, shop sales as you can for pillow covers the same as the painting, change dark rug to a lighter one when you can. The dark brown love seat makes the space look smaller; I see the cat, get a loveseat to match the fur, kind of.
You can buy fabric with off white or light beige designs to cover brown tables to help also or tablecloths on sale. Happy decorating.
I wish I could paint but I rent so that’s out I will see about what I can let go my cabinet my aunt and uncle gave me they are both gone so I hate to lose it maybe something else. Thanks will work on it . Paula
Thank you all sounds good and will get it done may take a little bit but it will all look nice in the end. Paula
I love your curio cabinet. My Mom is a collector or Occupied Japan, Hummels and Cranberry Hobnail. I love the business. Without seeing the whole room it's hard to tell how to arrange it. Take a few more photos and let us help you. When you arrange a room, the thing you need to think about is how easy it is to walk thru the room and get to the hall and the kitchen, without having to walk around things. Hope to see another post soon.
Hi, I would say remove clutter like to many folded blankets, less flowers on top of cabinet, you could arch flowers over that wall shadow box and always keep the furniture to a minimum and as small as you can and still be comfy. I feel less is even better including in a big room. I don't like the clutter look it closes the room in. Good luck.
If you do decide to purge some of your favorite things, take photos of them. Then you will have memories. You may like to use fewer pillows and throws on the sofa. Adding brighter colors may be good for you, as well. You have neat things to work with..post some pics.,when you are finished..
More pictures would definitely help so we can see the whole room. Your curio looks like it's just sitting between the kitchen and the live area. Since its tall, it closes in the room. Put the loveseat next to the doorway with the back facing the kitchen. This would give you a more open feeling. The curio should go against the wall or even angled in a corner. That would also break up the squareness of the room.
Awesome I didn’t even think I of that I will definitely try it thanks so much I will take more pictures.
there are room planner apps available...I’m more old fashioned. I like graph paper and pencil. 1square =1 foot measure the rooms dimensions . add where doors windows are located. Leave that sheet, Then measure your furniture and label the pieces, Still on the 1 ft square methods. Cut those marked pieces out. Arrange the furniture , on sheet no. 1. the min. Amout of space needed for a person to walk thru is 2 feet. My aunt a military wife who moved frequently gave me these tips. I’ve moved 3 times now, haven’t had to move any furniture around the rooms.
