Not sure if you want to remodel and add an island or just remodel adding an island, but here are ideas on both:

Flooring looks good. Repaint the cabinets and get new hardware. For an island, you can have a small one on wheels to move it around when you need it out of the way. Change curtains. That alone will make a huge difference and not cost a ton of money either.
don't move any utilities-. water pipes, electric, duct work. those moves can get expensive. have a kitchen planner help with the lay out they may charge some, but its been worth it. oh how I miss that kitchen- best functioning one by far.
I have used upper cabinets as a rolling cart, put a board across the top, used hinges and a brace to extend the top on both sides. gave them to my aunt and cousin after the last move. in a smaller place they function as a mini island for serving.
go to wayfair.com. they have some really small islands.
If you don't have enough room, 3'-4', between the counter and the island you cannot install a permanent island. There are lots and lots of roll-around islands available for purchase or if you have the tools and skills you could build one to give you extra work space.
Painting a different color is always a good choice to freshen up the look of your kitchen. Many companies make racks, drawers and other kitchen storage helpers if storage space is an issue. Usually people have specific goals in mind when they want to remodel. We can help steer you toward achieving those goals.
no room for an island...a rolling cart is nice, or no wheels. I made mine from a wine rack. Added wheels, shelves and a larger top w handles
How much of a remodel do you want to do? What is on the other side of the microwave? I had a small kitchen and I put in a peninsula. It was very handy and gave me a lot more storage. You might be able to do it too. You can continue the counter around the corner and under the window, then about 4 feet over you could start a peninsula. Keep in mind that you need enough room to open any appliance when you put anything in the kitchen. And I did noticed there was no dishwasher. That's about all I can think of without more info. What are the dimensions of the kitchen and where are the doorways? Pictures of the rest of the kitchen might help.
I see you like black and white and red. Me too!
For about $400 you can have a new up-to-date kitchen!
