I would go with various flowering plants for shady areas. There are more than you think, so check your nursery.
I put a hosta in a pot last year .weather all winter came back and big and beautiful . I think all flowers like a little shade .mine do .after the hosta blooms cut off plant is still pretty .
shade annuals......New Guinea impatients,non stop begonia,torenia,Caladium,Coleous,Fushia,Rex Begonia
Impatiens are my favorite shade-loving flower. They come in sooo many colors, you could have a riot of color or a formal monochromatic display. Water them when you stick a finger in and the dirt feels dry. Pinch off the fully bloomed and ready to topple off blossoms to keep them blossoming all season long. Just hide the dead flowers in the dirt to recycle the nutrients. Let us know what you decide and give us a flower show!
I would go to my local garden center and see what they have in the shade section. Those will be the plants good for your zone. Good luck
Look at plants for shade online, so you get an idea of what you like. Begonias, impatiens, coleus, fuschia are the most dramatic, but there are so many plants for shade. I also like plants like heuchera, foamflower, bleeding heart, ferns, columbine, hosta, which are pretty even when not flowering. Visit a good garden center, and look at the plants they have under shade covers.
