Hello Tita Abraham, Gnats are attracted to the same thing mosquitoes and most flies are: carbon dioxide ... and usually that means the carbon dioxide humans expel when breathing and sweating. The following article tells you every thing you never cared to know about gnats AND, more importantly, how to get them out of your life (or at least greatly reduce their numbers). Good Luck with the extermination, and have a wonderful summer :) Thanks for asking Hometalk for solutions :)

We use a method to get rid of misquotes and I imagine it would work on gnats too. We could not walk to the mailbox down the sidewalk without getting dozens of bites!!!
Mix half and half in your sprayer that attaches to the hose...Lemon scented Amonia and Lemon scented dish washing liquid...the cheap kind found at the dollar store or discount store works fine!
Turn on hose and spray until it no longer bubbles. Refill and continue until EVERYTHING has been sprayed.
Spray lawn, bushes (even under side), flower pots, up on roof so it can run down your gutters and downspots, spray under cars and all outdoor furniture and grill...even spray a little over the property line. DO NOT SPRAY JUST WHERE YOU WANT TO SIT...SPRAY EVERYTHING.
Repeat about once a week for a month...then about once a month through the summer.
HINT: Warm bodies draw flies, gnats, misquotes...to help in enjoying the outside, get a couple of box fans and set them around...keeps the bugs from moving in.
