Third, pick your color in a semi-gloss or gloss finish. ☺️
go to the paint store and look at the samples. also you can add a glitter to the paint if you want it to really sparkle. A glossy finish would also provide a "shiny" surface. A wall with a texture surface does not reflect light as much as a smooth surface.
I agree that you should go get a bunch of paint chips from your local paint store. Tape them on the wall you want to paint. Wait a few days to see the paint at different times of the day. Just a note, if you hang a large mirror across from a window it makes the space seem bigger. And it doubles all your natural light. Best wishes.
Rustoleum makes a couple of gold metallic paints. I haven't used them, but know a few people who liked it, but did say it wasn't super metallic with just one coat. I think metallic paints are different to use. Have you thought about wallpaper instead? They do make metallic wall paint. My girlfriend did the dining room in her old house in a burnished "old gold" and it was shiny and to die for - and what sold the house. They added a touch of black to the original color for the trim and molding. Cost, I have no idea, and she had excellent lighting. You could eat a bbq burger and feel like royalty.
Get paint chips and match the gold as close as you can and price it out and see if it is doable within your budget.
