How to keep the ac unit cool? Or does it need service because it is freezing up?
Are you asking about shading it? It's usually recommended to put a unit out of direct sun if possible so it doesn't have to work as hard. I know it's not always possible, since I can't. To compensate, I clean the filter frequently and clean the rest of it at the end of the season (and pull it out of the window in the fall). If the unit itself isn't cooling the room, check to make sure the filter isn't clogged and it is the right size for your room. You can also get checked out by a professional. Sadly, the expense is often more than replacing the unit with an energy efficient one.
Does the unit get hot? We put a overhang about 2 feet above an window ac unit that is on the south side of our house. That keep the sun from shining down on the unit and protects from unexpected rain storms but gives plenty of open area for air circulation.
I have heard about cooling " things "

I believe you should call AC service
Our A/C stopped working just as the summer was starting to get uncomfortably hot. We were uncertain which HVAC service to use and fearful of getting swindled due to our ignorance of what the problem was and how much it should cost. My husband did some yelping and decided to go with NEVADA RESIDENTIAL SERVICES https://www.nevadaresidentialservices.org/ based on the number of positive reviews. I was skeptical and said, you know, they probably write those reviews themselves. My husband said the reviews seemed genuine to her. I said, we'll see.
Well, as usual, my husband was right and I was wrong. The service was excellent.
