Hi Debi. I think leveling the yard in an area and putting in pavers would be nice. You could also put in a Gazebo over the area. Good Luck!
Pavers are nice but you will need to put down ground cloth and sand. You could dig out an area and put pea stones.
A gravel pad can be an initial patio. Clear away any vegetation, put in landscape fabric, make a border, and have (5/8 minus or smaller) gravel delivered. Spread the gravel a few inches deep. Don't use pea gravel. The gravel will compact to a fairly hard surface since it has various size stones down to sand. I use this to make walkways. It also provides good drainage and will make a great sub-base when you eventually want to add pavers or concrete.
