dont transplant in soil, use sphagnum moss, usually water with ice cubes
A lot of questions are in this request. First one would be what kind of orchid (over 30,000) species. Go to this site , always someone there with good advice.

Most people usually have the really common orchid. They are easy to care for. If it is in a two pot system (decorative pot with no drainage and pot with wood chips inside that the orchid is planted in), that is the easiest way to keep them healthy. A south window that doesn't get direct sunlight is the best to keep them in. Most orchids get sunburned if they get too much sun (direct sun). To water, fill the decorative pot with tepid water and let it soak about ten minutes, take the inner pot out and put it in the sink to drain. Once drained it can go back into the decorative pot. They do not like wet feet, it easily causes root rot. Never water with ice cubes. Orchids are natives of regions from Florida to South America and are normally found in the canopy in rain forests where they attach to the bark of a tree in the canopy. They live on the humidity and rain they get up their. They are not fond of the ice cold and it could damage the roots. Get a good orchid fertilizer, I use a miracle grow spray and it works well at keeping it healthy. I have found that the orchid medium that is more like moss tends to hold a bit too much moisture and causes root rot easily, so I stick with the bark medium for orchids. They like to be root bound, so don't need repotting but every few years or if the bark is breaking down so that they don't get any nutrition from it anymore. Hubby and I keep adding to our collection, I think we have about ten now in the kitchen window, thank goodness it is a large window. I hope this helps you with caring for your orchid plant. They are so beautiful when they flower, usually twice a year with the normal common ones most get.
Thank you so much!
