The new vinyl plank flooring that looks like wood is pretty reasonable. It's also fairly easy to install and looks great!
If the under layment is concrete, you could stain it, it's VERY easy.
Yikes! I remember when that was popular. My girlfriends parents had it in their kitchen. I could tell a long and very gross story but I will save you the gorry details.
Sheet vinyl or linoleum will be the least expensive, and certainly very durable. Before you say "yuck!" go take a look at the designs today. Pretty, easy to clean and maintain and wear extremely well. That is my vote. Steer clear of laminate, no matter what they say, once water gets in the seams it looks terrible and there is no fixing it - ever.
