    Leather is always chic. Use contrasting colors for straps, and antique hardware.

    Stencil a pattern on it.

    We painted one and that worked well to seal in the old smell that lingered. We chose 2 colors and painted the straps one color and the trunk a contrasting color.

    Hi Carole, you can also apply wallpaper to the trunk. There's a wide variety of textures and prints from which to chose. Some wallpaper is even paintable so you could get creative with that too.
