I have an open canvas with a 92 sun rating. I recently had the privacy fence installed to block a busy street. The gazebo is being repaired and will be anchored in front of the sliding doors for now. The light patch by the patio is an old, small filled in pool that only grows weeds.(they used sand I think) I would like to put in my little pond, have a fire pit, and maybe a private chill spot also, but I admit, I have the ability, but I have NO, did I say NO creativity or eye for deign/layout. HELP!!!
Gazebo was on patio, storm blew it to the side. I'm currently repairing it, so I can anchor it down on patio in front of sliding doors.

I have a bare bones yard. lighter area in right corner is a filled in pool. Only weeds grow there...
No trees, I have a 92 sun rating! Again, the old pool area stands out.

FIRST - google your town's "growing zone". That will then let you find all the trees, bushes and flowers that are native to your area. Planting only native plants keeps your maintenance down and chance of ongoing success high. You will support the nature of your area - insects, butterflies, birds.

I would begin by putting in trees. Once you know your growing zone find a few trees. Pick the locations carefully! Take into account the root structure and limb spread. Pay attention to the sun and work to create shade where you want it.

Next, choose 1-2 sides of the patio where you want to put flower beds. Be generous with the width! Use a hose to layout an interesting curve. Amend your soil - means add LOTS of new garden soil mixed with manure and perlite to keep it from clumping.

Plant perennials and you will see your garden begin to grow.

From there, you'll know what you want to do!

Dittos on the hose/curve. Stay away from square lines and borders. Something a landscape architect told me to do was cut a 'V' notch for a trench where you want your border, and use mulch to fill in the trench. It will not require unsightly plastic edging, and look more natural. You can mow right up to the edge of it

Google free landscape software or use low tech graph paper to draw out your house and yard dimensions to scale. Then play with the possibilities. This gives you a plan on paper. Set your priorities and work from there. Patience will be your greatest asset as your yard evolves but you may want to consider what will make the biggest impact the fastest to give sense of progress. Trellis covered with blooming vines may prove to be effective sunscreens while newly planted trees are maturing.

Thank you. A friend also sent me this pic for an idea/inspiration over the pool area. Maybe a slightly scaled down version.

I got a swing chair from PAMAPIC. It brings our family fun, I really love it! You can try to get one for your yard. You will be surprised.😀
