Start with the room that is used the most or the room that needs updating the most - it is usually a kitchen or bathroom. Decide what needs to be done in the room, what your budget is and what your DIY limitations are (what you can do and what you need to hire out). Look online sites like Pinterest and Houzz for design ideas. The simple act of painting a room can make a huge impact, so I usually start with just painting a room a light, bright color.
I'd start with verifying the bones of your structure are solid before doing any renovation. Verify that electrical and plumbing are all good. Create a written plan with a budget. Start with your kitchen, then move on to bathrooms, then proceed from there, sticking with your plan and budget. Shop your local Habitat Resale Store for items you could use and check with the paint stores for discounted paint. For me, it's the kitchen and main bathroom, but it's your home, your rules! Be safe, get the required permits, and ALWAYS ALWAYS measure twice! Best wishes and best of luck.
Prioritize the entire project and go from there. Make a list of all interior projects in the order of importance since your safety and comfort come first. After the major interior projects are done, then prioritize the exterior projects, A project list will keep you focused and allow you to stay on a budget since it is all about choices. You don't have to spend a fortune on the exterior right away but keep in mind that you do need to keep it neat and maintained to keep the neighbors happy and deter potential criminals.
When I have a lot of projects to do, I keep a Wish List and cross them off as they get done. Keeps me on track.
