How to modernize a 1970's fieldstone fireplace.
The fieldstones are very large and the fireplace takes up most of the wall and is floor to ceiling with a hearth and a wood beam mantle. I hate the look but don't know if its feasible to tear it down. Any ideas on covering it? or any other ideas at all?

We replaced our old marble mantel & now I would like to repurpose it. The piece measures 8" x 1 1/4" x 6'. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Patricia, the quickest update would be paint, change out mantle and maybe add a gas insert? Really depends on how much $$ want to spend. This is a video of doing a whiite washed effect.
