DIY of course! Be a savvy shopper and gather all your supplies over time, then tackle the project. How big of a renovation do you want to do? Full gut down to studs? Or just an update with paint and changing a few fixtures and hardware?
Hi, the words cheap and remodel really don't belong in the same sentence. However, you can spruce up your space with new fixtures and lighting and a paint job. Remodeling the bathroom can be done piecemeal if the budget is tight. Unless the tub needs to be redone, start with the basin and cabinet and go from there. Good luck!
Although we have lived in our house a great many years there has never been much money for major renovations. We have just one main bathroom and have done only decorative changes. It has a window, two doors, tub, sink, toilet and a very cheap shower which is very small. I made a skirt for the sink and a shower curtain. We hung found shutters at the window. We painted the plastic tiles and laid a peel and stick floor. We first papered and then painted the untiled section. I removed the cheap inset medicine cabinet and hung a found wooden one. We had a pair of cheap pin up lamps wired for beside the bathroom mirror (another found item) One of the best things we did was install two narrow, but long shelves on our two long walls. My sister gave me a vintage fixture that has metal flowers so I decoupaged a picture of like flowers to hang over it. We found an iron shelf that just fit in between fixture and toilet. We had no "vanity" just a sink, so my husband constructed two stands for either side of the sink, one is his and one mine. I got large marble tiles to use as tops for these cabinets. Inside them we store towels and cleaning supplies and we each have a drawer for toiletries. Although we would like a "real" tile shower, you know what? . . . our cheap one gets us just as clean!
