Boiling water will work. If you have a large area of weeds, you can get black plastic mulch film, unroll it and lay it over the weed patch. Put something heavy on it to keep it in place. It’s not an instant fix, it it will kill the roots of the weeds.
My go to remedies are boiling water; epsom salt followed by boiling water or vinegar. Each had its purpose depending on location.
Pouring boiling water or vinegar on weeds will kill only the portion of the weed plant growing above ground. It will not kill the roots. Only a genuine herbicide such as RoundUp will penetrate into the roots and eradicate them.
For some gardeners who do not mind keeping on top of having to continually reapply them, the topical solutions might be OK.
Putting plastic or weight on top of where the weeds previously were growing will prevent them from growing up in the same place, but it will not kill the roots. The roots are eventually going to push up and show their heads somewhere else.
The only other sure proof 'home remedy' to killing weed roots is to go deep and dig the roots out thoroughly.
Hi Dar - This is the most effective method we've found that actually works. Good luck! Hugs, Holly
