Hello Zac,
This time take it to a mower repair shop and get it done right! A full Service.
You probably need your carburetor rebuilt. The internals are largely made of plastic now and cannot withstand sitting long term with fuel in them.
i hope that helps
😊
One thing you can try on your own before taking it in for servicing is to change the air filter and put in clean fuel.
Since its been sitting idle for a few years it probably needs a tune up. Like a car you need to start it up every now and then. Change the oil and the air filter and see if that works. Its been exposed to all the weather elements if sitting in a bush for few yrs. You should clean it up and store it in a shed or garage. Check that all plugs are connected and not rusted out.
If it runs and quits, then your engine is not getting a steady supply of fuel or your fuel is bad. Do your regular maintenance, replace the spark plug, air filter and oil. Drain the fuel tank and put in fresh fuel. It is easier and cheaper to buy a replacement carburetor if that's the issue than to rebuild one (unless you have those skills.) If it has been sitting a long time, it's possible the ethanol in the fuel that was in the tank has eaten away at some of the seals. Don't be surprised if you have gasket leaks.
it could be a clogged carb. and check the plug, it could be dirty. You can use a wire brush to clean it the reset the gap. Just soulds like it's dirty inside. You can do this yourself. You tube can probable help you.
Sounds like bad fuel in the tank or the gas line from the tank to the carb is clogged or restricted. Fuel filter/valve in the gas tank may be also be clogged.
