How can I safely get rid of ants (not sugar ants) in my microwave?
Yesterday ants started invading my microwave. I need a safe method for cleaning the microwave and getting rid of the ants before they invade the kitchen.
Salt works on some or boiling water! Or the Ant traps that other animals can’t get into.
Get boric acid from a pharmacy (might need to order it), mix some with corn syrup. Place in throwaway bottle caps around the kitchen where the ants are seen. They will eat and broadcast the location of the food source to other ants. The ants will go to their nest and share the food with other ants. Boric acid is a slow killer and in a week or two will have killed all ants in the nest.
The ideal thing is to get rid of the source, of course. Check all pipe openings under the sink and fill with that expanding foam filler to block the holes. Check for entrances around doors and windows. Blockthose somehow. Be sure your garbage is taken out daily (or more often, if necessary.) Rinse containers that may hold attractive food for ants, before discarding in garbage. Leave no open food packages on counters/cupboards. Then (I used little "take out" bowls - like for dipping sauce at restaurants) put a Tablespoon of Borax in a bunch of little containers and place them in strategic places around your kitchen - in food cupboards, under sink cabinets, pots and pan cupboards, etc. The borax is poison to the ants. They will ingest it and die. Within 1 week, all my ant problems were gone. I have continued to leave the little bowls of Borax out, (they are very small and take up so little space) just in case more ants should get in the house on shoes, cats, or other ways, but have not seen any more ants. Easy, relatively cheap, and safe for pets and children. Good luck!
Hi Jeff,
I use boric acid and confectioner's sugar. There are several other ways listed in this article. This article recommends food jelly instead of confectioner's sugar. The sugar has worked for me. I put the mixture in jar caps. It attracts the ants and they take it back to the nest which will then kill more of them. Check out some other ways in the link below. Wishing you the best.

I've had success with diatomaceous earth at the entry points and it will get taken back to the anthill and kill them. They don't like cinnamon either.
HI Jeff - This is the most effective method we use. Good luck! Holly

What I do is sprinkle unbaked jiffy cornmeal next to the outside wall where they are coming in, usually the kitcken, in our house. They take it back to the colony and it wipes them out.
