How to reseal damaged wood flooring without doing the entire 2 rooms?
My wood flooring in front of the sliding door leading to the deck has changed color and loosing its finish. The previous owners also had a large dog that guarded there, so scratches also. The boards are approx 2" wide but V'd angle at the edges so a v between the boards. My wifes idea is to add a nice throw rug to cover it up. I have to agree I like that better than trying to sand 2 rooms(kitchen and dining)-restain and reseal. Thanks so much, Bryan (johnrrademacher@gmail.com)

It would be hard to sand and reseal only a small area and get it to match the rest of the floors. It would be the best to redo the entire 2 rooms. But until you are ready and willing to do that a nice throw rug is a good option.
You could lay tile in the area and just have a slight step up.
Unfortunately, it’ll be nearly impossible to restain and reseal just that one section to match the rest of the floor—and even if you could, given its location the wood will again fade/be damaged over time. Have you considered removing the damaged wood and replacing it with tile? I know that sounds tacky, but there are so many attractive tile options now, and it will definitely hold up to the wear and tear of being by a sliding glass door (and be easier to clean) than wood.
