My kitchen is a 1950's wood cupboards that are painted. I would like to remodel but don't have the funds for a big overhaul. How can I redo the cupboards without having to replace to make it fresh. I am not a fan of shady chic

Paint and new hardware!!! You don’t need to replace your cupboards, that’s very pricey! But, painting your cupboards will definitely give your dated kitchen an amazing facelift! New hardware will be the icing on the cake! And, the best part is, YOU can do it and it will save you so much money! There are so many beautiful colors you could paint your kitchen. I’m not a fan of shabby chic either, I love the look of a clean, unwashed, solid color. Accessorize with pretty items on the counters to give your kitchen pops of color! If you want to change the back splash, there are some beautiful options besides expensive tile. No grout needed! You will be amazed how you can transform your kitchen and keep within you budget! Best part is, you can say “I did this!” Good luck!

I could see some new paint colors and some new flooring. If your floors are vinyl you can lay a floating wood plank floor right over the top. It doesn't look like you kitchen area is that big so it should be affordable. Your counter space also looks small so you could change that up as well if you are a good DIYer. You can paint over your tile back splash with paint made for that purpose. If you want to paint your cabinets you can and change out the hardware. I painted mine a light gray and I accent with turquoise, white and touches of black. I favored a farm house style kitchen and used some ship lap but that may not be your style! The choices are endless for you! Have some fun!

They are very flat so should be a piece of cake to make into shaker style. 1/4 inch MDF us very inexpensive. Shaker style does not have mitered corners so simple cuts. Decide how wide you want your strips. 2 and a quarter sounds about right. I used 1-1/4 inch on the drawers. Cut strips to lengths and widths. Use construction adhesive to secure. You can and probably should pin nail also then fill the holes. Clamp the pieces down til dry. You can caulk inside if you want. Then prime and paint. I personally love Gripper primer (Home Depot). Add new hardware and voile. These cabinets were builder grade LAMINATE.

    • We actually trimmed out our doors that were slightly rounded, and we filled in the gap with caulk before painting. It worked beautifully. So no worries if you want to go this route!

Hi I also would suggest you repaint the cabinets. Looks like you can use some color in the room. This is my go to site for painting laminate cabinets

And if you are so inclined and want to do your countertops you can paint then also

A color to compliment your neutral backspace. The add a pretty color to paint the entire kitchen. If you have funds left over then I would look at maybe adding a nice pendant light over your sink and if you want to change your floor you can see where you ae budget wise.

Good luck with your project and remember any further questions we are her for you!

Looks like you have a nice neatly organized kitchen. I would paint the doors white to match appliances. Also I think the scalloped edging is out of date, but save it if you remove it, things have a way of coming back into style! I too think your flooring could use some brightening up but you did not ask about that. If you have room in the rest of the kitchen, some bright prints of fruits and vegetables would be pretty.

Actually, your vinyl floor looks pretty good to me. But, if you think it is too blah, add a decorative rug. I bought a low pile faux oriental area rug and stuck it down with two sided carpet tape. Not only does it add sime nice color to my kitchen but it is more comfortable for my back and the kitchen floor is much warmer in the winter.
