Fall is an excellent game to plant most trees. So if you are planning on acquiring one or more, now is the time to decide what you may want or need and where they should be placed depending upon their needs.
I think it will depend on the type of tree you want to plant but to be safe I would suggest Spring. Fall might be too late and the trees won't be able to survive the Winter when freezing temperatures can damage roots and stop moisture from reaching the tree.
Fall is the most recommended time to plant trees because they have the warmth of the earth to develop a good solid root system.
My grandfather taught me that you can plant a tree in any month of the year that has an "R" in it and it has worked for me for 68 years now. But I think spring or fall give you a little edge and remember to just water when first planted and no fertilizer.
