Have a gas fireplace with a full stone wall. It looks very dated. How can I update this and make it a nice focal point in our family room

Hi there, paint is always an option or you could considering covering perhaps the top half of it with sheet rock so there isn't so much rock.
Solid paint or white wash paint.
