How do you patch a hole in drywall that is 2" wide?
The hole that needs patched is too small to put a board behind, but too large to just use putty ty patch. Should I cut the hole bigger? Or is there maybe a better solution?

Purchase a peal and stick drywall patch
As crazy as it sounds, auto body filler ("Bondo") can work well in this application. Try building it up in layers and expect to do some sanding to even it out. It has fumes, so work in a ventilated area.
I would use a popsicle stick or cardboard as a backer. Can sometimes fill with some fluffed up steel wool as support.
Okay is this is kind of rigging but stick some wadded up paper into the whole. Then use a sticky mesh materials over the spot then sparkle over that. After it drys sand it and paint.
Hi Mitch,
You could use Expanding Foam Spray and shave it down once dry, or wet newspaper and pack it out and let it dry and then, use filler. Best of luck!
