I'd try to cut it with a sharp x-acto knife to see if you can get it up in pieces.
Would a large patio rug work? You could probably find some great deals at a Lowe’s or Home Depot now. The one on my patio is 7 - 8 years old and looks great. Easy to clean.

cut in strips & use a hair dryer to remove the strips, use hair dryer on high. Then I suggest that you use a product called Duradeck that has many choices and lasts for years. James
