This project has a lot of mixed emotions. My sister was diagnosed on December 12 2017 with Stage 4 lung cancer. She has already had breast cancer twice. So my husband and I brought her from NY to SC to live with us (June 21 2018). Her Chemo has stopped and Hospice is now involved. She still has good days and we are planning a trip to Hilton Head Sept 9-16. When I redid her bedroom, she had most of her stuff from NY, but was in dire need of a nightstand. I wanted it to be extra special. Sorry for the long intro but I never want to forget how precious time is.
My Goodwill find last weekend. Paid $7 for this.
After getting it home, I noticed it was from World Market. Cool.
It had some bubbling on the veneer, but that’s ok.
I washed it and scuffed it up.
So here is what I found online. Very cool that I got a great deal.
First time using this. Didnt see where it made a difference. Still had so do a light sanding.
I started with a sand block but then ended up getting sandpaper.
Here is some paint that I already had in my garage. Behr paint is my favorite.
Did 3 coats. I was going to add some stain for dimension, but changed my mind.
Here is the fun part. My sister reads the New Yorker weekly. I begged her to let me have the covers. She really didn’t want to...but finally did.
I started cutting and placing on top of the nightstand. I used decopage.
the toughest part was getting pics where I wanted and then lift and......well you get what I mean.
And then the dreaded wrinkles and bubbles. Happens every time. I say a little prayer that it flattens 🙏
I used wax to seal the rest of the table.
Well it flattened pretty good. Had to use a pin to let some air out. It didn’t have to be perfect....just needed to finish.
Once it dries, I will either use the poly spray or paint on a layer.
And here is my sister Carole. This was taken a couple of weeks ago. We went for a massage and she loved it. Please keep Her in your prayers and never forget that each day is a gift. My word to her is....God has you here for a reason, either to teach a lesson or receive a lesson.

My Sister passed 9/22/18- on my daughters 25th birthday. Now her bedroom is a guest room where others can enjoy her nightstand.
