Why isn't my sunflower bud not blooming?
The bud has appeared two weeks ago, but it doesn't open up. I also see that the leaves are becoming yellow. How long is it going to take to bloom?

DRIED coffee grounds make blooming plants bloom more, as does Miracle Grow!
Be patient,. I speak from experience. I am in lower Michigan and my sunflowers which are in bloom looked like that a few weeks ago.Guessing you being in Canada your season is just later.
I am not a gardener and it literally took me four attempts to finally get plants: Year one- improperly planted: Year Two- never sprouted or eaten by deer; Year three- started indoors, transplanted and most likely eaten by deer. Next year I will likely put them in the same spot, but in the ground not in planters.
Good luck and hope they stay strong through the fall.
Finally it bloomed ! But it is a very small flower.
Manjula, it takes 35 days for the whole bulb to develop, then 30 days before the bloom appears, then the bloom lasts two weeks. So you have 51 days until the big bloom. Of course, some varieties vary, but not by much. If you haven’t already, plant the second batch now and you might beat the first deep freeze. Best wishes, Manjula! ☺️
