How do I block half the light in a room??

When I open the laundry room doors, the light from the room "invades" the family room and "ruins" the TV viewing plus it is awkward. Help me with a design to block just half the light -some kind of ceiling fixture to block half the light so it stays in the laundry room ONLY!!!!! Pictures too would help! LOVE you DIYers!!!

Is the invasive light from a window or interior lighting?

interior lighting - a single light bulb

  • Don't turn on the light in the laundry room. Or do laundry when not watching TV. If someone in the household gets annoyed that you are doing laundry, you have bigger problems and maybe they should be doing their own laundry! Sorry to sound so mean, but this is just too petty to be entertained. In the grand scheme of life there are far more important things to worry about . . .

I am not "worried" just wondering if there is a light shade of some kind that can help - looking for a creative solution. I would not trust my babies to do their laundry - just trying to make it better for all - whew!

    • If you do not teach them to do laundry, where will they learn? In college from another student? Never? Every person needs how to perform basic household chores. As to your light bulb debacle, if you just have a random bulb hanging out of the ceiling all you need to do is get a shade for it or purchase a proper light fixture. Hop and bop over to any lighting shop or home improvement center. I am sure you can find something that will be suitable. They have options in every price range.

What about a dimmer...that way you can have a little light in the laundry room while it won't be so bright outside of the room. . Another idea , maybe a plug in lamp, that wouldn't be visible from the other room, and don't use the overhead light.

just putting in my two cents worth...all my kids did their own laundry, by the time they were in 8th grade. Not only did I not have to waste my time fishing pens out of pockets. It stopped a lot of extra laundry,
