Are you open to painting? Table and chairs, distress them a tad. Change the light fixture and curtains. I have seen removable wallpaper that looks like barn boards. Change the rug out too. Add some galvanized accessories. Maybe one or two of those will work.
I so agree with Deb! The table is a little dark. I totally recommend changing that light fixture.
All you need to do is paint the bottom red barn door color put up checkerd black curtains and your good it would even look nice if you painted the square in the bottom like a barn door pretty.
And don’t for get 🐓 roosters
The rug, folding screen (?) in the corner and wall decor have to go. A long shelf or light open wide shelf cupboard with dishes and hooks for cups would be handy for a farm look. Plain cream color crocks and tin canisters for flour etc. would be kept handy in a farm wife's kitchen. Add another curtain rod and a layer of curtains that have some thickness and texture like homespun in a cream color. Your sturdy table and chairs are fine, but the table legs and apron could be painted another color like light gray or cream. In a farmhouse, the legs would get a beating over time and painting would be done to protect them. The chandelier is also good since it looks 18th century. Your wallcolor is perfect. Bring in color with things like tablecloths which can be more than the red or blue checked ones, and look for cotton ones.
Dawn, did you want Farmhouse or Country? If you want Farmhouse, you could change your color scheme. Grays and whites, blues, whatever you like. Re do your table and chairs with paint and reupholster your chairs with a beautiful coordinating fabric. A farmhouse sign could go over your wainscoting. A new light fixture. New centerpiece. Good luck.
Dawn, this room is such a great space to start with! My suggestions for a farmhouse look would be to start with the table. I'd leave the tabletop wood, but paint the legs white. I'd also paint the chairs white and recover the seats- a buffalo check pattern would look great on the seats! I agree, I'd change out the rug- the color is fine, but maybe a flat sisal. I think that the light figure is good, but some texture or color on it would be beautiful- you could wrap the arms in some twine, or just paint the fixture black. For the curtains- again, I'd use a buffalo check, and open them up so some of that beautiful sunlight comes in! Finally, adding a shelf or two to the wall so you can display some farmhouse "treasures" would bring so much interest to your room. Have fun!
I agree with painting your table. The light fixture isn’t bad, if it’s not in your budget to buy new you can remove it and paint it black, leave the bulbs exposed when you hang it back up. If you can change, Shades of Light has some really great farmhouse type lights. Find a jute rug. Paint your walls a really soft gray. Then either add a really cool 3D wall feature or grab a cool buffet from a local flea market and paint it to put on the wall behind the table.
If you feel up to a few DIY's, you can quickly get the look! Paint your light fixture black, Lighten up your table and chairs with chalk paint, and switch out the art for something lighter. Your walls and floors are already great. A new rug would also help. Check out Wellwoven or RugsUSA, as they run great sales all the time. Good Luck and post pics whatever you decide! :)
