On a private note, we use a wire gravestone saddle for my parents' grave site. In the spring we put simple spring flowers, summer we use whatever we find on sale, fall flowers, winter we buy an evergreen piece. They are not that expensive and it will last during the winter months. I also like the idea of something you can just dig in the ground and place in like a heart shape, etc. It is terrible how people steal things, and you just can't afford to keep things as you would wish. But it is the idea of your love just doing something that is important. I hope these ideas help.

Buy them from the Dollar Tree.

Yes. I've found that you can make decent arrangements with their flowers. If they are not stolen, I take them home and wash them in dish soap and reuse them, a bit varied in style.

There are now 9 family graves in my city and I'm the only one to care for them. So saving $ is really important!

Sarah, I do know what you are talking about. Honor him while you are there. Then just give up the flowers in his name, and leave. Don’t grieve yourself over the things of this world. Honor Him and your brother for eternal life.

Now. Go to Dollar Tree and get one of their swags or garlands, plus two flower or bunches for each month. Right now, autumn decor is out, and Christmas, too. That’s orange, yellow, red, maroon, pink-purple, purple, white, red, green, pink, gold and silver,. That 12, off the top of my head.

You’ll need 12 pieces of rectangular styrofoam, any thickness, about 18” or more long, any height. That may take you to more than one discount store, so you may see some more items you like. You can use wood, if you have it.

Cut the styrofoam on the bottom enter third, forming a curved saddle. This will make a saddle of styrofoam that can sit on a tombstone or grave site. But leave the block flat if it fits better.

One box of floral pins will be plenty, and you could use straight pins.

If you can, choose a color to represent your brother. The color for his birth month, or his favorite color, or a flag, but it should be personal for you or him. Pin that somewhere on his arrangement.

Wrap the top and sides but not the bottom with the hard land. Stick the flowers in wherever you like, and any additional things you picked, like a teddy bear, or jingle bells. If you go as far as you can ahead on each of the arrangements, and stay with Dollar Tree as much as possible, you will have a memorial for your brother every month of the year. Inexpensive at $5 apiece, yet timely and special. God bless you. ☺️

A flowering ground cover is a wonderful means of adding care to a grave site. There are a number that are perennials and hardy. They may be trimmed to fit the area desired without damaging the plant. Not too many people are interesting in stealing such plants, but the plants show you care.

The Catholic church bought the cemetery after several of our family members had been buried. It was supposed to be a perpetual care cemetery but the owners refuse to turn the water sprinklers on ...$...(Drought of Texas heat) so all the grass died and blew away. No plants will grow and many of the trees have died, including the one by our family posts. So, a ground cover won't work for us. Nice idea if they weren't so CHEAP!

Sorry about your loss. I would visit the dollar store. Maybe you can buy the makings for an inexpensive wreath to change for the holidays. The metal wreath forms are inexpensive, then use floral decor for each holiday to decorate the form.
