What's the best flower/plant to grow in Texas?
I know that opinions vary, but what's your opinion?!I have great luck w Rosemary plants. Green all year long.
A little late for hydrangeas this year but for next year, find out if it is the type that bloom on old or new growth. I found out the hard way that mine bloom on old growth. I trimmed and shaped it way down last year and had no blooms this year. Hoping for better next year.
Do not dead head old flowers leave them on and then you should get a good show next season. When you have to tidy the plant expect a poor show the following season.Thats just how it goes with this type of plant.
Fertilize them 2 months before spring and they like partly sun partly shade. And do not over water them.
Many hydrangeas bloom on old wood which means that you don't want to cut off all of the previous year's growth.
Don't over prune. Cut only about 1/3 of the plant off. Wait until the leaf buds swell in the spring so you can cut just above a pair of leaf buds.

Hi Gerry,
I recently read an article about hydrangeas becoming frostbitten in certain zones and, although the foliage is green, they will never bloom again. Hopefully, this is not the case for you.
