Paint over or remove wallpapr directly on drywall?
Our basement has 2 bedrooms, a rec room/ laundry room ( future reno project) and bathroom with walk through shower and sauna.
The hallway, laundry area and bathroom has wallpaper directly onto the drywaĺl..
so, with that being said.
Would it be less of a damage repair job to just paint over the wall paper rather then stripping and probably ruining the drywall sheets?
it really needs an update.

I normally do not recommend painting wallpaper. There is always the possibility of it bubbling or peeling. In your situation if it was put on walls without "sizing" or primer then painting is would be the only solution.
I agree painting sounds like the best choice. I've painted over wall paper several times, and with good primer first, it really looks nice. Be sure to sand down any areas where the wall paper may be peeling first. Good luck!
