I've seen many people use plastic bottles and jugs as a filler so you don't have to use as much soil.
Just know it will make your container top heavy. When I plant large containers, I do so in place so they do not need to be moved. Always advisable to place a large heavy rock at the bottom then fill with plastic bottles, then your soil and plant. Less likely to blow over if you have strong wind.

Plastic bottles are great for really large pots! They take up a lot of room and leave space for drainage. And much cheaper than stones. Good luck!
