Shirley, Hello,. Spray the racks with Easy-Off on newspaper. Do both sides, the put them in a large plastic bag with a twist tie. Wait 24 hrs, and rinse with the hose or in the sink. Aloha!
or, spray with oven cleaner , put in black plastic bag. tie shut. leave out in yard in full sun. at sun down, take rack out of bag, hose off. should be 90% clean, just a few spots to wipe down.

I take mine out on the back porch/deck and spray them with oven cleaner and let them set all night. Then I rinse them off in the shower or with the hose even. Most the grime comes off, but for a small area I use steel wool pads
I just research this myself, most manufacturers firmly state not leave racks in self cleaning oven During the cleaning cycle.
They need to be cleaned independently. It seems to be the best solution is to soak overnight in ammonia and these links below describe the process. Im consider using plastic bin that is sized for my racks rather than a plastic bag.
Other options do suggest using oven cleaner in a trash bag here as well as another solution.
Here are some helpful links that I hope will help —you choose the best solution for your need.

Place them in a garbage bag and spray with oven cleaner. Let sit over nite. Scrub and hose off the next day
For standard cleaning, use a soapy sponge and hot water to wipe the racks. For stubborn messes, soak oven racks in hot water, dish soap, and a couple scoops of baking soda. Let the racks soak in this mixture for 15 to 30 minutes before scrubbing clean with a soft sponge.
