How will my MUM do in a beautiful heavy wicker basket??

I’m afraid there is not enough depth in the basket in the photo. But it could be the light. That size mum needs about 6” minimum for the roots to take hold. But you can find a smaller deeper wicker basket, perhaps plastic lined and with a handle, and set that where you now have the mum. Happy Autumn, Gle! ☺️

I think it will be fine. Chrysanthemums are fairly shallow-rooted. Good luck.

Only problem I see is dirt washing out but if it’s stayed so far you are good to go. If you have any wash out put one of those plant liners in next time.

I would be more concerned about the wicker. Dampness and water will rot it. Make sure the basket is plastic lined and does not stay damp.

Mums planted above ground are at risk of the root ball freezing. Below grade they usually won't freeze

It will probably be okay, but the damp soil will eventually wreck your basket. How about finding a pot or liner to plant the mum in, then insert in the basket. But it sure does look nice.

I don't know where you live, but mums I've planted in pots here in zone 7 have overwintered okay, if I put the pots in a sheltered area outdoors.

I hope you used a liner in your basket!
