HELP!! We have a table & stool set in our kitchen & it needs updated badly! The tiles have cracks & the wood is extremely faded. Any ideas?? (Country style/rustic ideas preferably)

  • I would sand and refinish the wood in a stain you like. If the tiles are cracked, I would remove them as well and redo the center as a mosaic, maybe with old plates? I can;t wait to see what you do, Lynn!

Get some boards do what they call ship lap. Cut your boards the same width but different lengths and glue them to the table. Sand when finished and coat them with a sealer and stain.

Have you thought about an epoxy for the top? This company has kits for countertops. Maybe it will give you some ideas. Then sand and repaint the legs and supports.

Just painting the grout using a small bottle of acrylic paint from JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby or Michaels will change the look a lot. Try a color that will "pop" and go with something else you love in your house. I'm thinking a bright turquoise.. Have fun. You could sand the rest of the wood on the table and paint white or light grey. You could even stain the wood portion. I hope you'll share a picture of what you do!

  • I would paint all of it and do a stencil on the tile. You could use chalk paint or even porch and floor paint if you want it super durable.

Use old gray, weathered boards big & thick. Cut to length you want extending them over sides if you have room in kitchen making it bigger for additional counter space. Use construction(tubes at Lowes,Home Depot) adhesive and attach directly to top of table.Nails may split the wood on the table so may need to pre-drill holes & use screws. Sand the ends of boards smooth paint them with watered down gray paint to match top of boards. If the boards are rough on top you can cover with a glass piece(easy clean up),lightly polyurethane them or even lightly sand just don't remove weathering. You can find items like boards, glass even paint, vanish, polyurethane at Habitat for Humanity resale shops,or local salvage shops. Cheap Glass table tops at Good Will. Maybe even if you see any old wood sitting at nearby house or farm ask if the people would be interested in selling or giving it away.

Yes! I would build a pallet cover to attach over the whole top. Stain or white wash the new boards then paint the legs black. Make the stools match by painting them black and reupholster the chair cushions.

My large dining table had tile along the middle, Although a lot of work but so worth it in the end. I took the tile out and used pallets wood to replace it, my table seats 14 but you have the right size and pallet is available anywhere and then stain the whole top to match. But with limited time it's definitely a vacation project.
