How can I make a fire pit where my above-ground pool was?
I used to have an above-ground pool but have since removed it. However, I still have the plastic pool bottom laid out to protect the sand from my cats making it a great big cat box. I have sand there but should I dig a hole for the pit or just keep it above the on the sand?

You’re definitely going to want to dig down beneath the sand to the ground. Building on the sand would make it unstable and prone to crack and fall apart. You need to dig down and lay a level concrete base for the walls of the fire pit to sit on.
I don't think it would matter
If you’re just putting rocks in a circle and making a fire pit it’s no problem to skip digging. The weight of the pool will have compacted the soil plenty. Sounds fun! :)
Donita, here are a couple of videos of fire pits being built in sand. I hope they help.
