big dog! Fence! use as fertilizer!
LOL. I love the big dog idea. We built a small wire fence that my kitty hated to jump over and it kept her out.
Pepper or red pepper flakes are what a lot of people use. Some say to use a rock mulch as cats do not like walking on them. A fence is useless. Cats can easily jump over.
This is such a nuisance and just makes a mess of your garden.
There are a couple of ways to stop this behavior.
If you know the owner of the cats, go and talk to them and let them know what their cat(s) is doing.
If they are feral, one thing you could do is put down wire mesh between the plants. Since you already have a garden, for next year when you are planting, put the seeds or plants in first and then cover with the mesh wire big enough for your plants to go through.
Some people have used plastic forks with the tines up.
If you want to go higher tech, hook your hose to the watering system with a motions sensor attached, when the cats come to use your garden, it will detect the motion of them and spray them with water. Kitties do not like to get wet.
Polly has a good idea of a dog or a fence. I would hesitate to use the poop as fertilizer, it may contain parasites.
Sprinkle Scoal into soil.
I never had cats in my garden or flower beds and I owned one, but she was the best protector of my home and yard. She was my watch dog and now she is GONE!
