Disguising a Thermostat
Most thermostats are hidden in a hall way or other inconspicuous place. Mine just happens to be placed on a bare wall that sticks out like a sore thumb. Its placement kept me from hanging art on the wall without making it off centered. I seen these metal racks at Ross for under $20 and it sparked an idea to finally hide my thermostat.
***NOTE: By using the wire shelves, venting is not disturbed. The knick knacks are placed adjacent to the full plastic thermostat cover being sure not to obstruct any airflow patterns. This was well thought out to ensure there would be no disturbance to the performance of the equipment. ***
Odd placement of thermostat
I placed the rack over the thermostat to mark the wires to be cut away.
Using wire cutters, remove the square over the thermostat.
With hangers, place rack on wall over the thermostat. 2nd one added

My husband wanted to be able to see the temp at all times so finding the right décor to fill it with was a challenge.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Where did you get the wire baskets? The Amazon link shows a different design.
The thermostat also registers the temperature so it knows when to start the furnace or air conditioner. I was told by my HVAC repairman NOT to cover it. Make sure there is plenty of room for it to register the temp or you will damage it.
So to see the temp or adjust temp you need to move/remove the decor items? If so, it seems inconvenient to me.
