How to deter spiders and Asian beetles from entering my house?

It's that time of year when spiders, Asian beetles (look like Lady Bugs) and mice are looking for ways inside my house. Are there any reliable and non toxic ways to deter them? We think we have the mice blocked from entering but they have proved us wrong in the past. Our windows have been replaced with quality windows that don't let air in but the beetles and spiders still find a way in.

We found that putting hedge balls in the basement (mine is old/damp) and also under the bed helped with keeping out spiders.

You can try this for spiders:

Peppermint oil soaked cotton balls for mice. I have also used a spray that is a 50/50 mix of peppermint oil & cinnamon oil that is very effective.

That's a great article, thank you! I have a bag of DE on hand and will dust it around the outside of the house first and look for indoor places to sprinkle as well.

Hi Cj, I read somewhere to use salt water and spray areas on the outside of your house, porch etc. It is supposed to deter spiders. I am going to try it soon cause I have a bad problem that is growing worse on my porch.

Hi everyone, I have cleaned off the cobwebs and sprayed my porch with saltwater. I am going to wait a week or two and I will let you know if it worked.

Hi again, Well it has been a week and no new spider webs so I guess it does really work. I put my sprayer on stream because I didn't want it to go out into the grass. I wanted to keep it contained to my porch. It is raining so when the rain is over I plan to re-apply since it worked. Yay, no spiders while I am sitting on my porch.

    Hi Rebecca,

That's wonderful news, congratulations on finding something that works for you!

I'll have to give this a try, myself!

    Thanks for the update.

Here's a post that might help, there is a section that talks about using soap to get rid of mice https://chascrazycreations.com/irish-spring-soap-and-flies/
