How to plant Lavender in my garden?
Is the lavender plant a perrenial plant or an annual?? My garden is full of rose bushes and other fragrant plants. I would love to plant lavender. I love the aroma. I just don't want it to grow wild and out of control. If it is an easily contained plant with such a fragrant aroma I would love to add it to my garden.

Lavender is a perennial plant. If you keep it trimmed up, it will keep it from getting too large and out of control. It's very good to have as well because it keeps certain bugs away because they don't like the smell.
it's a perennial in zone 5, I planted mine in a pot buried in the ground. so far it has flowed over the edges but hasn't rooted outside yet.
This depends on the species of the plant you have. There are some that are annuals and some (shrub-like) varieties that are perennials. The good thing about he annual variety are that they re-seed themselves.
It comes back every year, but you can contain it. First year planter of lavender for me. It did well, and I will be putting it in a larger pot for next year, but it did well.
Thank you for getting back to me with your experience with lavender plants. I want to use it as a border plant, behind my yellow daffodils. The lavender seem to be a hardy plant to grow. Thanks
What zone are you in? Choose your lavender carefully. It does spread, but very easy to contain when needed. Grows like a weed here in Zone 9. I am going to relandscape an area next spring and will be buying lavender. Fantastic for sachets, bath salts, potpourri, baking and cocktails too! I always like a few sprigs in my bedroom, so soothing.

Hi Naomie, Thank you for the links, and for answering my question. There is a lot of good things to be said about lavender. Not only does it have a fragrant smell but it keeps the bugs at bay. Thanks again for the links. Buy the way I'm in zone 3way up top of Maine. I hope they can handle the harsh winters.
