How do I get rid of daylilys?
I planted daylilys on both sides of our walkway and they are now out of control. I have already dug them up and split them once before. The root system is huge. Today I dug up every other one and noticed that there are still roots left. Is there any way to kill off these roots so they don't grow again next year in the spots that I dug up.
Thanks,
Rose

Vinegar or salt water on the base of each plant and around new shoots.
There is always Roundup liquid you can pour in the ground to kill the underground roots....nothing survives this stuff...they must be there a very long time to establish themselves so firmly under the ground....try it...
Salt wrecks the soil. Nothing grows. Great for weeds in gravel tho'.The plants you left will spread to the empty areas so best way is too let them begin to sprout and where you do not want them growing either spray new shoots with 1/2whitevinegar1/2straight lemon juice mixed or if it's really bad when the new ones begin to emerge spray them with Round-up it goes thru leaves then down into roots killing plant.Becareful using it,use protection do not do it on windy day only directly spray each leaf holding sprayer nozzle on the leaves.Round-up is a chemical & all chemicals aren't good but Daylilies are extremely hard to get rid of unless you can find every single tuber and they spread & live indefinitely. Some chemicals do serve a purpose if used sparingly, safely and if needed, like if you have poison ivy, oak, sumac which are also hard to remove.
